Studio Notes – Welcome to the working side of things!

Welcome to Studio Notes. This is where we slow things down and show a little more of what actually goes into the work. The half finished walls, the taped up edges, the ladders, the bad light, the good days and the moments in between. No polish and no marketing fluff, just honest notes from the studio and the road.

Seven 9 Signs has always been about traditional signwriting done properly. Real brushes, real paint and time honoured techniques that have been used for generations. Studio Notes exists to document those processes and the thinking behind them, from early layout lines and surface prep through to finished work out in the world.

You will find progress shots from site, close ups of brushwork and gilding, notes on materials and methods and the realities of painting on everything from glass and brick to metal and concrete. Some posts will be quick updates, others a deeper look at how and why things are done the way they are.

If you are interested in traditional craft, hand painted lettering and seeing how signs are really made, you are in the right place.

If you would like to follow along or you have a project in mind, get in touch and let’s put some honest paint into the world together.
